What are the Types of Dental Braces?
Types of braces
There are many types of braces available today for the treatment of crooked teeth. Each type of braces has its own advantages and disadvantages. You should choose the type of braces that suit your lifestyle and budget requirements.
Traditional metal braces
Traditional metal braces are the most popular. These are made of stainless steel. With improvement in brackets manufacturing and design, modern metal orthodontic brackets are smaller and more comfortable. Another advantage of metal dental braces is that they can move teeth faster and therefore the treatment time is shortened. While orthodontic metal braces are more visible, with the introduction of colorful elastics and ligatures, wearing metal braces has become an interesting fashion statement.
What are Damon Braces?
Damon braces are a new generation of metal braces which uses passive self-ligating braces. This means that the use of elastic or metal “ties“ are no longer required. Since Damon braces do not require elastic or metal ties, you can experience braces treatment without the usual uncomfortable tightening effect associated with traditional metal braces.
One unique feature of Damon braces is its patented light, high –tech and shape –memory wires. This results in faster movement of teeth and thus require fewer visits for braces adjustment.
Another unique feature of Damon braces is that it allows alignment of your teeth without extractions or rapid palatal expanders in most cases. As a result, braces treatment with Damon braces is simplified compared to traditional braces.
Traditional braces (shown in the left box) are tied in with elastics, which cause friction and pressure, making treatment slower and less comfortable. Damon braces use a slide mechanism to hold the wire, which allows teeth to move more freely, quickly and comfortably.

Why Choose Damon?
The Damon System of passive self-ligating braces with light, high –tech and shape –memory wires is a revolutionary way of aligning crooked teeth. Traditional braces treatment often requires extraction of healthy teeth and/or the use of palatal expanders to make space. This results in braces treatment that is often more uncomfortable, takes longer, and can leave a narrower arch and a flat profile. Damon braces treatment can result in smiles with full, natural 10-tooth smiles achieved with light biologically-sensible forces, and are specifically designed to improve the overall facial result of each patient. Damon braces are designed to be discreet, comfortable and easy to keep clean. Without the elastic ties which attract and collect plaque, Damon braces make dental hygiene easy during treatment.
Ceramic braces.
Ceramic braces are almost invisible as they are transparent. They are very popular with working adults who require braces and yet do not want them to be too conspicuous. However, teeth movement with ceramic braces is a bit slower compared to traditional metal orthodontic braces. Ceramic braces are also slightly bigger than traditional metal braces as they are more brittle so the manufacturers have to make ceramic brackets bulkier so as to make them stronger.
Ceramic braces are also more expensive than metal braces.
Damon Clear Braces
If you do not want to have metal braces showing, Damon Clear is the latest option for you.
Damon Clear is almost invisible except for the fine metal wires running through the transparent brackets. Damon Clear uses the same original Damon System Technology, which uses tieless braces with high technology archwires. The result is that in the hands of trained orthodontists, teeth are moved faster and more comfortably.
