Cost of Braces
In modern society, having an ideal pleasant smile is an important consideration. A perfect smile will increase your self esteem and confidence thus improving career prospects and relationships. The cost of braces or other orthodontic treatment is an important consideration but it is a worthwhile investment in yourself as achieving the smile you’ve always wanted will bring lasting personal satisfaction and good dental health. The cost of braces will depend on the complexity of the case, the type of braces being used and more importantly, the trained skills of the orthodontists. Generally, the cost of braces is lower if the braces are done by general dental practitioners. In Singapore, dentists with the title ‘orthodontist’ or ‘specialist in orthodontics’ have to go through a 3-year approved post graduate orthodontic training programme. This is followed by an additional 3 years of advanced training programme. Dentists who have successfully completed this 6-year post graduate programme will then be certified by the Singapore Dental Council (SDC) as orthodontists or specialists in orthodontics. Naturally with their more advanced training, the cost of braces done by orthodontists is generally higher.
